Why Great Results Take Time and How to Plan Ahead for Holiday-Ready Skin

A Skin Health Series by Pani Ghadimi

Holiday parties may still feel a few months away, but when it comes to your skin, now is the time to start planning.

One of the questions I hear most often is, “What treatment should I do?” My answer usually starts with another question: “What are we trying to change?”

Pigment, redness, texture, fine lines and skin laxity may all show up on the same face. However, that doesn’t mean they should all be treated the same way.

The goal isn’t to do every treatment. It’s to choose the right treatment for your skin, give it time to respond, and build from there.

Why start skin treatments months before the holidays?

Many aesthetic treatments work progressively. Your skin needs time between sessions to heal, rebuild collagen and respond to treatment.

For some patients, I may recommend a series of three treatments spaced approximately four weeks apart. Starting early gives us the flexibility to treat the skin thoughtfully rather than trying to rush results right before an event.

In other words, your December skin may actually start in September.

IPL: When pigment and redness are the problem

If sun damage, unwanted brown spots, redness or uneven tone are your primary concerns, IPL may be a good place to start.

IPL uses targeted light energy to address visible pigment and redness. Over time, the complexion can appear clearer, brighter and more even.

Arizona gives us plenty of sunshine, which we love. Our skin sometimes keeps the receipts.

Helix Fusion: When texture needs a reset

For patients concerned with texture, fine lines or more noticeable signs of skin aging, I may recommend Helix Fusion CO₂ + 1570 nm resurfacing.

This treatment combines fractional CO₂ resurfacing with a non-ablative 1570 nm wavelength, allowing us to customize treatment based on the skin and the desired result.

Rather than simply focusing on surface appearance, the goal is smoother texture, improved tone and overall skin rejuvenation.

EXION RF Microneedling: When collagen is the goal

When the concern is skin texture, firmness or collagen loss, EXION RF Microneedling may be the better fit.

It combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to stimulate the skin’s natural remodeling process. Because collagen development happens gradually, improvements can continue after the treatment itself.

This is one reason I like planning ahead. Good skin doesn’t always work on our social calendar.

How do I know which skin treatment is right for me?

Start with your skin, not the machine.

During a consultation, I look at what you’re seeing now, what you’d like to improve, your skin type, treatment history and how much downtime works with your schedule. From there, we can decide whether IPL, Helix Fusion, EXION RF Microneedling or another approach makes the most sense.

Sometimes one treatment is enough. Other times, a series or combination approach creates a better plan.

There isn’t one perfect treatment for everyone. There should be a thoughtful treatment plan for you.

If holiday photos, parties and events are already making their way onto your calendar, this is a great time to start thinking about your skin, too.

Glow now. Celebrate later.

How far in advance should I start skin treatments before an event?

For treatments performed as a series, starting approximately three months before an important event can allow time for multiple sessions, healing and progressive results. Your exact timeline depends on the treatment, skin concern and individual response.
