Cryotherapy refers to the process of stimulating the body’s natural healing and recovery systems by applying extremely cold temperatures to particular body parts (local cryotherapy) or the entire body (whole body cryotherapy). Eliminating pain, reducing inflammation, and improving the blood flow are just a few of the many positive benefits it can cause.
To use extremely cold temperatures in order to induce healing processes is a technique as old as medicine itself. In more recent times, cryotherapy has been used to stimulate the body’s own natural ability to recover, repair, and rebuild. Using extremly cold temperatures over a short time has an effect unlike any other cold therapy or treatment.
Red light therapy (also known as Photobiomodulation) targets the mitochondria of our bodies' cells through the use of red and near-infrared wavelengths of light. When exposed to these wavelengths of light in a concentrated form from a red light therapy device, our bodies increase production of ATP, which is responsible for energy transport at the cellular level. In short, red light therapy activates the body's natural processes to speed healing and resolve inflammation through a temporary increase in circulation of blood and lymphatic fluid.
Red light therapy is a fast, convenient, and non-invasive approach that treats a wide variety of conditions. It is used to treat pain and reduce inflammation from arthritis, tendonitis, and soft tissue injuries, as well as boost collagen production which can held speed wound healing and improve the texture of the skin.
Combining the freeze power of the cryotherapy chamber with the benefits of longer light therapy treatment will really super-charge your treatment: we call this Relief & Repair! Cryotherapy and red light therapy are similar in that they are both advanced technology that work on a cellular level to provide a number of health benefits and promote healing. Cryotherapy and red light therapy may be combined to optimize the effects of each approach. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions below.

Please reach us at info@thepeakspa.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Cryotherapy is good for anyone who wishes to supercharge their body’s natural ability to heal, repair, and recover – like chiropractic patients, professional and amateur athletes, weekend warriors, and anyone who wishes to improve their quality of life and to increase their health.
We usually start clients at 2 minutes, working our way to 3 minutes. Professional athletes have been known to get to 5 minutes. The nitrogen cryo chamber that allows cryotherapy at an incredible low level of temperature, cools the air down to unbelievable -292°F. It is cold, but the cold is a dry cold, so not as intense and you might first imagine. It’s invigorating and energizing. Even if you normally feel the cold, this will feel very, very different. It certainly doesn’t have that cutting feeling like freezing water or an ice bath.
Before your treatment session, you'll be able to talk to a clinician who can answer any questions about the process. This person will also go over your goals for the treatment. Are you looking for something specific, like improving signs of aging in your skin, or are you looking to use red therapy to benefit your overall wellness? The clinician needs to understand what you're looking to achieve to determine the wavelengths of light, length of session, and frequency. Most conditions are treated with 3 to 5 sessions per week for 10-20 minutes, and decrease as benefits are achieved. Some patients continue on with visiting us weekly.
Time and light frequency are determined during intake. The benefit of photobiomodulation therapy in a light bed, such as ours, is to expose as much of the body as possible to therapeutic red light. During the treatment session, men should wear shorts, and women should wear shorts and a sports bra to maximize the skin exposed to the light. You will also be provided with protective eyewear. You will lie in the bed which looks similar to a tanning bed. There is a button for you to press when you are inside and our staff will begin the treatment by turning the bed on front outside your private room.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
